Although not directly related to your questions, we're in the process of
starting a model comparison component in EMF/EMFT which uses Eclipse's
compare framework:

But I'm not sure where to point you for general information about how
you might use JMerge to generate a result and then show a comparison. A
simple approach might be to use the GenModel's "Redirection Pattern" to
generate a side file rather than updating the actual file and then do
just a plain old resource/resource comparison on that.
