Hello all,
I have read the project proposal and I am personally very pleased about
this
initiative. A top-level project that focuses on the promotion of modeling
technologies would be very valuable for the Eclipse community.
The incubating MDDi project is developing technologies, not implemented
in the context of other projects so far, which would fall into the scope
of the Modeling project. Some of these technologies are clearly stated
in the proposal (e.g. QVT or other OMG standards), others are related at
various degrees.
As the Modeling project proposal aims at unifying existing Eclipse projects
related to model-driven development, I am wondering if you would consider
possible collaborations with MDDi.
As a related question, I am also wondering about the role that would play
modeling projects, currently incubating under the Technology top-level
project
(e.g. MDDi but also GMT or EMFT), in this new top-level project.
Thanks,
Sébastien

Hello Sébastien,
Yes, we agree that improved collaboration between existing modeling-related
projects is an important goal of forming the top-level project. As indicated
in the proposal, this would include both MDDi and GMT, although the details
have yet to be discussed.
Thank you for your support of this project, and your feedback.
Best Regards,
Richard

Hello Sébastien,
As you have thankfully pointed out to us, parts of the proposal are not visible
when using Firefox. So until this is fixed, others may want to view it using
a different browser if they had previously used Firefox.
Thanks again,
Richard

In the next monthes, we will work on a lot of topics such as Code
generation, Parser and Text editor generation (in general manage
concrete syntaxes).
But we are also interested in the validation framework, transformation
tools, model management tools (comparison, merge...).
We have also implemented the XMI-DI metamodel using ecore and we are
working on metamodel extensions for our editors. All theses things can
be contributed to the Modeling Project. Now our license is EPL and allow
us to do it :).
