Looks like a pre-release download. Try the released download for 2.1 (this
bug was addressed at the very end of the release cycle):
http://download.eclipse.org/downloads/drops/R-2.1-2003032721 30/index.php
Also, try launching eclipse with the -vm arg directed at the installed
location of the JRE:
eclipse -vm /my/jdk/installdir/jre/bin/java -vmargs -Xmx256M
Are you running the GTK or Motif version of eclipse?

Thanks a lot,
you are right. The pre-release don't work with SDK 1.4.2.
The ECLIPSE release 2.1 is working.
