Hi:
I've been investigating the TPTP AutoGUI Recorder and it shows great
promise. Took me a while to get it working, but once I switched to using an
Eclipse and Remote Agent from the same build date (10/18/2005) things
started to behave.
I do have a question though: I would like to use the AGR to drive an Eclipse
3.0.2 session. I took a macro which I had recorded against the 3.1.1
Eclipse (the simple Java Project macro), and tried to play it back against a
3.0.2 eclipse following the steps to set up a context other than the current
workbench, but the playback hung at 10% in the Preparing and Deploying step
and eventually timed out..
I suspect that this means that I can't do what I want to do, but I'd
appreciate confirmation. If there is a versioning issue, is it with
Eclipse, SWT, or something isolated to the TPTP RAAgent or AGR tools?
Thanks,
Simon.

Hi Simon,
Unfortunately since AGR is a new feature introduced in 4.1, it only means
that it will work using an Eclipse context supported by 4.1+. The AGR
plug-in contains a startup code that kicks in when an automated test suite
is launched. This means that the context that you use should contain the
AGR plug-in under its 'plugin' directory. The current code of AGR is an
extension of some of the existing test tools that are available in TPTP.
Since these test tools have changed since TPTP 3.0.2 (which uses Eclipse
3.0.2), then including the AGR in the 'plugin' directory of TPTP3.0.2 will
not help. I don't know why your execution stalled at 10% (you are probably
using a stale version of an Agent Controller). What should happen is for
the Eclipse 3.0.2 version to pop-up and just sit there without running your
macro (since the AGR plug-in is not loaded and the startup code never kicks
in).
You raise an interesting point that I obviously overlooked. Feel free to
open a feature on this issue. I think I should further break down the
plug-in to make the playback operation generalized and portable to all or
most versions of Eclipse.
Thanks.
