How best to paste images into Eclipse forum posts? [message #1837579] Tue, 02 February 2021 17:04 Go to next message

As the Eclipse forum doesn't appear to allow direct pasting of images, like StackOverflow, what is the most effective way to put images into forum posts? I can see that existing images in posts have urls that point into the eclipse forum, so there must be a way to do it. The "Insert an Image" action just presents a text field to enter a URL.

Once you Upload an image (not just choose it), the attachment appears in a table that offers you a link to insert it into the message body.

The key part is "Upload an image". How do you do that?

Ah, you have to store the image in a file, and then use "Upload file"?

I cannot get this to work. I saved all the images I want to paste into separate files, and then I uploaded the first one with "Upload file". It now shows up in the "File attachments", and there's a link labeled "Insert image into message body". I put the cursor in the text where I want the image, and then clicked this link. It inserted "index.php/fa/39892/0/". I then went to "Preview" to see what it looks like, and that is literally what it shows: "index.php/fa/39892/0/". No image. I would assume that preview is supposed to preview what it's actually supposed to look like when posted.

I don't think I did a preview, otherwise I would have noticed how large the image ended up being.

I finally got it all done, but this was a real pain in the b*tt. This is exacerbated by the fact that I didn't notice that MS Paint doesn't automatically crop to the image boundaries, and also that the file upload component running in the forum keeps the image files open, which resulted in me having to manually disconnect those file handles so I could edit the files in MS Paint.
