Migrated to a new machine a few months ago, going from a Kubuntu 18.04 setup to Ubuntu 20.04 + KDE (System76 doesn't offer Kubuntu). Have to use proprietary Nvidia driver to run external monitors.

Since the install, have been plagued by annoying and disruptive repaint storms in Eclipse when the mouse moves over the editor. Identical behavior in Eclipse 4.9 and just-updated 20.09. No obvious settings impact it, whether Eclipse (turned of theming, f.e.) or OS (with or without compositor, OpenGL3.1, OpenGL2.0, Xrender). Various java updates (currently OpenJDK 11.0.9.2) have had no effect, either.

I've attached a short recording of the behavior I'm dealing with.

Any ideas before I work up a bug report?

I suggest you open a bug report, you might get better response. Not many of the developers are monitoring this forum. Please also include the GTK version on your system and the window system (X or Wayland) in the bug report as well.
