Ever since I upgraded from 2020-09 to the 2020-12 release, whenever I open an XML file, another copy of Eclipse is launched and fails with the "please choose another workspace as <this> is currently in use." Any ideas on where to look to solve this issue?

I used the "in place" upgrade to the new eclipse release, not a new install. I'm wondering if this had anything to do with it.

I'm running Eclipse on a MacBook Pro on OS X Catalina.

How, exactly, are you "opening a XML file"?

Nitin, thanks for responding.

I'm opening the XML file from within eclipse by double clicking the file in the Package Explorer tab. The XML file opens in a new editor in the current eclipse instance, the eclipse app loses focus, and a new instance of eclipse tries to open (splash screen, "please choose another workspace" dialog).

Well that's not supposed to happen. I've not run into this on macOS. Which editor is it opening in the current instance? Is there anything in the Error Log view when this occurs?

For pom.xml, it's opening the Maven Pom Editor. For a non-pom XML file, it opens the XML Editor.
There are quite a few entries in the Error Log that happen on eclipse startup, mostly having to do with Lombok (lombok/eclipse/handlers/EclipseHandlerUtil). No new errors are logged when I open the XML file.

Edit: I downloaded a fresh install of eclipse 2020-12, and the problem isn't occurring.
