Hi all,

This is for the Eclipse Packaging Project maintainers for PHP Development Tools (PDT).

@Jacek Pospychala
@Kaloyan Raev
@Dawid Pakula

I see that most Eclipse Packaged Projects come with Git client already installed in the package by default:

The essential tools for any PHP developer, including PHP language support, Git client, Mylyn and editors for JavaScript, HTML, CSS and XML.

As SVN is also a very popular VCS, is it possible to have the Subversive SVN client plugin installed by default alongside the Git client please?

Subversive haven't new releases since couple years and I'm afraid no longer works with latest eclipse: https://projects.eclipse.org/projects/technology.subversive

Also SVN popularity drops year by year, for example survey from 2016: https://rhodecode.com/insights/version-control-systems-2016

Main difference between subversive and egit, is that egit have built-in git implementation (jgit), subversive require external tools.

Thank you for your reply.

I have Eclipse PDT Neon 3 installed released on 2017-03.

I guess I could use that for installing Subversive released on 2017-06-28?

As I see subversive is dead an no longer maintained: https://www.eclipse.org/subversive/sponsor.php

There is another SVN team provider for eclipse installable via marketplace: https://marketplace.eclipse.org/content/subclipse
Because I'm not SVN user since 8 years I can't tell you more about it.

If you plan upgrade to 2020-03 I strongly suggest not doing this now ;)
I suggest upcoming Eclipse 2020-06 since M2 (release 8 may). Or 2019-12 release. This version also replace old, broken and unmaintained JSDT (javascript) by https://projects.eclipse.org/proposals/eclipse-wild-web-developer

2020-03 need restarts from time to time due bug in DLTK Lucene index implementation.

Hi Dawid,

Thanks for the info regarding Subclipse. That looks really good as it's actively developed and maintained by Subversion core committers. I didn't know there were other SVN plugin providers for Eclipse.

It also supports 2020-03. Any chance of integrating this into the next PDT release please?

Thanks for that tip. All I need at the moment is to get a SVN client installed in PDT so I can use the Revision Graph to learn about branching and merging techniques:

Unfortunately packages created and hosted by Eclipse Foundation can contain only Eclipse Foundation plugins.

Help -> Eclipse Marketplace is always available, you can easy install from here.
