I have spent days successfully building a rather complicated GUI by hand (panels, boxes, alignments, ...) and do not want to do it again. I would like to use WindowBuilder for my next GUIs; but I have spent a complete day unsuccessfully trying to download/install it. There is conflicting info on the internet.

I am running Eclipse 4.9, Java 8 Update 191, running on a MacBook Pro under macOS Mojave 10.14.2. Should my procedure be the following?
1) Uninstall Eclipse 4.9,
2) Install a stable build of Eclipse, perhaps 3.0,
3) Download PDE,
4) Download/install WindowBuilder (from what site?).

Thanks in advance.

Before doing anything radical, look at the Window -> Show View -> Other box. There should be the WindowBuilder views, Palette and Structure.

If you're intending to re-install Eclipse, please use the installer.

For using WindowBuilder, you should not need the PDE. It is needed for Eclipse plug-in development.

Did "Window -> Show View -> Other box". WindowBuilder stuff is not there.

What would you recommend I do next?

Thanks for the help.

Open your Eclipse and select Help -> Install new Software. In the Work with box select the main repository of your release (my is: 2018-09 - http://download.eclipse.org/releases/2018-09). In the General Tools list, you should find WindowBuilder components to install, just select them and follow the instructions from the dialog box.

Thanks. Your advice was very helpful. I downloaded the version you mentioned, but had to repeat the procedure for downloading WindowBuilder Documentation.

Many thanks. You have saved me an enormous amount of time!!!

Hi. I have Java 8 Update 191, running on a Windows10 intel system.
I have downloaded the installer, but it ends without being able to download all the components.
So I have downloaded the eclipse-java-2018-09-win32-x86_64.zip and unzipped it. (eclipse 4.9.0)
After successful starting Eclipse, I tried to update it but I have an error with the http://download.eclipse.org/releases/2018-09 source.
The error is:

Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/2018-09.
Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/2018-09.
Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/2018-09/201809191002/content.xml.xz.
Truncated chunk ( expected size: 16394; actual size: 10234)

Any ideas?
Thanks!

This looks like a different question. Probably you should use it to open a separate thread.

Hello everyone,

I just have installed Eclipse.
I wanted to try to create a first application, with a form, but had no WindowBuilder available.
I have followed the explanation, selecting all windowbuilder components from the General Purpose tools but after this? I still can't cretae a JFrame. The only object I find is the Palette, and this creates an error if I select it.
Do I also need other components? (SWT? Other?)

Thanks in advance
