Is Scout a viable choice for production development? I have just discovered its existence. I do not see a lot of documentation on it.

You might ask on their specific forum https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=174 but I imagine the answer is most definitely yes.

We've been running three large scout applications in productive use for 3 years now, first as rich clients using Scout Mars and since June 2017 as web clients using Scout Neon.

We are running a small application for a year now, every day 30 concurrent users. This is not much, but in all the time, Scout was stable, fast and consumes a very small amount of system resources.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Any suggestions on documentation? And Is Tomcat the preferred web server?

I am interested in possibly using it for business data collection and integrating BIRT for reporting.

Thanks again.
Dan

First go through the beginner's guide, then read the Technical Doc. These two documents are enough to get you started.

Hi Dan,

we use Scout since 2015. We are mainly on consulting projects but have developed a core application in Scout and finished two use case driven solutions for our customers (banks). In both use cases we manage data, run calculations on the DB (and in the background via python) and generate reports.

In my experience, Scout runs very stable and the framework is mature, we made use of the scout tutorials (which were now replaced by the two documents mentioned by Benjamin) to get used to the framework. In the Scout-Widget application and the Contacts Demo is a lot of open source code. In summary we were able to solve the customers use cases with a small team and QA.

If you need help (we developed a LDAP connector and other stuff ourselves), feel free to ask.

Best,
David
