Fredrik,
Of course it doesn't create one that that just works. If you want to
see ones that work, you can look at all the ones in the existing product
catalogs. Just use Navigate -> Open Setup -> Parent Models -> Open
Catalog Index and from there you can look at what's in all the existing
catalogs.
Generally a product definition will require you to build a sensible p2
task with update sites and feature IDs...
