One day at work, Eclipse seemed to stall indefinitely while downloading dependencies for a Gradle project from Artifactory. In the future, could Eclipse timeout downloads earlier? The problem turned out to be a network connectivity issue, but Eclipse gave no hint that this was the problem.

Are you using the Buildship plug-ins to manage your Gradle project in Eclipse? If so, there is a dedicated Buildship forum where this question would likely get more response.

I don't think so. I'm using a fairly fresh, vanilla Eclipse setup.

Vanilla Eclipse doesn't have any Gradle-awareness built in. What led you to think that it was downloading Gradle-deifned dependencies was your problem?
