Hi,
I have a very strange behavior. When I go to new --> other I can see the
list of possiblities but I'm not able to select something with my mouse. I
have this behavior with 3.2 and above. In 3.1 it works without any problem.
Can anyone help me?
greets

You say you can select with the cursor keys but doing this also scrolls the
window down?
That is, to be very specific: if you press Alt+F you should see the File
menu dropdown. If you press N, you should then see the Next submenu
dropdown. And if you then press the down or up arrow keys, you should be
able to navigate within the submenu. When you then press Enter, the
selected action should occur (for instance, "New Package" should bring up
the New Package dialog).
While doing that, you should not see any scrolling of windows. That is,
pressing the cursor keys while you have a menu dropped down should only
change the selection in the menu; it should not affect the contents of any
views in any way.
Is that different from what you are seeing?
If you are seeing something different than that, it seems like possibly
there is something wrong with your machine, like a stuck Ctrl or Alt key or
something. That could also explain the problem with accessing this from the
mouse. Have you tried rebooting? Do you see similar behavior in any other
applications, like a word processor or spreadsheet? I have sometimes seen
behavior like this (in other applications) when the mouse or keyboard driver
was having problems or when there were physical problems with the mouse,
keyboard, or power supply.
If my description does not match what you're trying to do, or if it seems
like I've misunderstood your symptoms, please provide more details.
Thanks,
-walter

Hi Walter,
I'm sorry I think I didn't explain it very well. So I have a problem when I
go to file --> new --> project. The same problem when I select others. I
included a print screen (eclipse.jpg) from the window where I have the
problem. The buttons and the scroll bars work (with mouse the mouse
buttons) but I cannot select a file with my mouse. I don't have this problem
with eclipse 3.1 only with the versions above. I also included a printscreen
from a window where I would exept the same behaviour but where I' m able to
select with my mouse. I also tried to reboot but it doesn't change
anything.

So, you do File -> New -> Project, and you get the New Project dialog.
Within that dialog, you are able to use the mouse to click the Next and
Cancel buttons, and to scroll the list, but you are not able to use the
mouse to select an item in the list.
In other dialogs, such as the New Working Set dialog, everything works as
you would expect. In Eclipse 3.1, everything works as you would expect,
including the New Project dialog. There are no entries in the Eclipse error
log.
The entries in the list are not grayed out; it's just that clicking on them
does not cause them to be selected.
You have tried rebooting, reinstalling Eclipse, and using a different
workspace, and none of those had any effect.
Have I now correctly described your situation? If so, it sounds to me like
maybe you should enter a bug in Bugzilla (against the Platform), including
all these details, and see whether anyone is able to respond. I've got no
idea why a particular listbox would stop allowing you to select items with
the mouse.
Some other questions and clues:
For me, under the "Wizards" text label on the New Project dialog, there is
an editable text field containing the text "type filter text". I notice
that area on the screenshot of your dialog is blank. Perhaps that's a clue;
I don't know.
What happens when you use the mouse to click on the expand/collapse icons
for the collapsed items in the list, such as "General"?
You said earlier that you could select items in the list with the cursor
keys, but that was a problem because it would also scroll the window. I am
not sure why that would be a problem; it seems like desirable behavior? For
me, when I use the tab key to put focus on the list, and then use the up and
down arrows to change the selected item, the scrolling works to ensure that
the selected item is always in view. Also, I can use the right and left
arrows to expand collapsed items and vice versa. Is that not true for you?

Hi Walter,
Thanks for your reply. The problem with the scrolling window is that it
scrolls to far, so when I start the wizard my first field is selected when I
push down the screen scrolls down so far that I can't see my selection. I
must use my scrollbars to see what I have selected. When I want to go up
again he select multiple files. I will enter a bug in Bugzilla is it ok for
you that I use your text because it's realy well described.
greets and thanks for your time
