I installed the eclipse SDK 3.1 on my Red Hat EL4 (WS) AMD Opteron powered
linux box. I am using the SUn JRE 1.5 Update 4. When I go to start eclipse
the following error pops in the log and eclipse dies:

any thoughts / comments / corrections to what I may have done incorrectly?

I can start eclipse on a 32-bit Intel Xeon machine running RHEL 3 that
uses an older version of the jre.

thanks,

If you are using a 64-bit JVM, you must get the x86-64 version of
Eclipse. Similarly, if you'd rather use the 32-bit JVM (it is more
stable), then you'll need the 32-bit version of Eclipse.

From your log, you were trying to run the 32-bit version of Eclipse.
For this one, you should also make sure you have the 32-bit version
of the required libraries as well (GTK+ etc).
