Good evening,

I am currently having problems when displaying a report that used to work. The report uses a custom ODA data source that accesses a database. Instead of showing a report consisting of several pages containing data read from the database, what I see is just the usual icons that come when using the _frameset command and a subsequent line that is 'Showing page 1 of'. I have tried with different browsers, among others IE9 and Firefox.

Usually, when there are problems accessing the database, the report is not displayed but in the browser window or either in a pop-up there comes some complaint about BIRT not being able to deal with a certain element in the report which usually is a table connected to a query. But currently there is no such response.

It seems as if the browser waits for the report to finish without getting into any timeout. Does anybody have a suggestion what the reason for such a behaviour can be?

What version of BIRT are you using and what app server are you using?

We use Tomcat 6.0.29 and BIRT 261. But there is more to say.

The WebApp that is deployed below Tomcat is not exactly a BIRT 261 runtime engine but an App that contains such an engine plus some filters that, for example, obtain the report template from a database and move it into a temporary Tomcat workspace where the later-to-be-executed BIRT engine can see it.

Also we use Tomcat's redirect mechanism to point to a different URL. This alows us to have the WebApps at a different location in the installed product and not below the Tomcat folder.

Don't know whether theses peculiarities matter here, though.

Juliane,

Does it work when you use the /run mapping instead of the /frameset
mapping? Do you get anything in the birt log? You can set the log
level to FINE in the web.xml.

Hi Jason,

finally, we had a chance to look at the very BIRT engine that fails, and it appeared that the problem was caused by some bad files that contain all zero bytes, among others, some JavaScript an CSS stuff. So, no wonder it refuses to work properly.
