How can I change jvm which eclipse runs on? [message #89149] Tue, 26 July 2005 02:58 Go to next message

In other words, how can I change the Hotspot VM that the eclipse program
uses, as opposed to the version of java used to check, compile or run the
user program. Also how can I run eclipse on the interpreter instead of the
Hotspot VM. Is there a more stable amd64 java VM than Suns version?

The reason I ask is that eclipse keeps crashing with a HotSpot VM error. I
have downloaded java 1.5.0_04 to see if that fixes the problem but I don't
know how to switch to it.

I am running it on an amd64 machine, I have put full details of how I have
setup eclipse here:
http://www.euclideanspace.com/software/language/java/eclipse /

I have also included the full error message in the above page, the first
part is listed below.

Thanks,
Martin

Thanks very much, using the references you quoted, I tried the latest
version of Java but the VM is still crashing, do you know if others are
having problems usung eclipse with Linux amd64 VM, or is it just me?

Cheers, Martin

I can't say, but unless it is specifically stated as unsupported I'd be
surprised if no one has tried it.

You might try posting a new thread on the eclipse.platform group that
asks specifically about Linux on AMD 64-bit. Include your eclipse.exe
startup arguments, the JVM version info, and the error your get. Also
check to see if there is a .metadata/.log file in your workspace directory.

Eric
