How to upgrdae from Indigo to Juno? [message #892280] Wed, 27 June 2012 11:14 Go to next message

Hello,
I'm currently running Eclipse Indigo and now want to upgrade to Juno with the "Check for Updates" option.
I've added the repository
http: // download.eclipse.org/ releases/ juno
to my available software sites.

But I've ran Check for Updates several times and didn't get the new version.
I allways get the message "No updates were found"
How can I update automatically?

It depends on what you have installed that you would like to update. Eclipse classic SDK? Any other bundles installed?

By default, eclipse won't update from 3.7.x to 4.2 (that's disallowed). In theory if you have the Eclipse classic SDK you could point to releases/juno (or eclipse/updates/4.2) and ask P2 to install the 4.2 SDK deliberately. But I haven't tested the outcome myself.

Your best bet is to likely do a clean install and point your Juno install to your existing workspace.

I unzipped Juno to the Indigo directory, pointed to my current workspace, then ran update and all seems to work fine so far. Was I lucky, lol?

The suggested way is to
Quote:
1. Install the new version of Eclipse in a new location, separate from any old version of Eclipse.

and set the workspace (quote: "Tip: It doesn't hurt to make a backup of your workspace before upgrading.") to the old location, either on first startup or using the -data command line argument

I'm working on fixing that.
