Scout Toolbar [message #892004] Tue, 26 June 2012 15:49 Go to next message

Dear all,

i do not fully understand the "restrictions" of the Scout Toolbar. Does it only support "Buttons" or is it possible to add other Fieldtypes (e.g. SmartFields).

The scout model has some limitations. This is due to the need and the use cases until now.

Some of theses limitations can be strange for anyone having the RCP Platform in mind. All what is available there isn't automatically available in the scout model.

Feel free to make some suggestions on how it could be improved.

Updated with the input of V. Barr.

What you say is, that SWT and all its capabilities are automatically available in the Scout-Model. As i understand this not the case (please can someone correct me).

But my question was: Can i simply add a SmartField into the Scout Toolbar. I think currently not. Wink

I am really sorry for the misunderstanding.

As you notice, I wrote exactly the contrary of what I intend to. The Scout Model doesn't provide everything that is available in "RCP" (let say "RCP" for {SWT + JFace + Eclipse Workbench + ...} ).

The explanation is simple: the scout Model is UI library agnostic. The model is rendered with SWT and with Swing.

You got it right: for the moment it is not possible to simply have a SmartField into the Toolbar (the bar on top of the main window).

PS: I will edit my post. I hope you don't mind.

To open a feature request is a good way if you rely on this feature. There are some limitations with the eclipse 3.X versions concerning toolbars and menubars. Anyway I think we will find a suitable way to get there.

If you open a bug/feature request (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/buglist.cgi?product=scout) please add a reference in this forum thread.
