I've been having problems launching the VE view in Eclipse. After a new
install of Eclipse (and updates for VE) I am able to use VE with no
problems. After some time, the enviroments seems to get corrupted and I
am unable to launch the VE view (Error trying to set new file in editor).
I have attached excerpts from the .log file in my workspace:

Rich,
After reinstalling Eclipse 3.0.1 and VE 1.0.2, the problem came back.
Still getting the same errors in the .log file (see below). If I create a
new workspace the problem goes away for awhile. Any ideas?

Not a clue. That's way down in the guts of Eclipse. Somehow your
configuration is being messed up. This is done through plugin.xml and
somehow the information is getting lost. There is nothing we do that
could cause that. Are you doing anything unusual with your Eclipse
installation? Something is screwing it up.
What is your operating system?

Hi Dave,
I was having very similar issues, also running on Win XP Pro SP2. I found
that turning off my Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect resolved all of the
problems I was having. I can only guess that it was interfering with the
writing of the configuration files. It worked for me...

You shouldn't be getting this. I wonder, did you use the update manager
to get up to 1.0.2 and then use the manage configurations to uninstall
1.0.1.1? If you did that would mess things up and may result in an error
like this. There is a bug in 3.0.1 Eclipse with the update manager that
the uninstall of ve exposes. It has been fixed in 3.1.

Rich,
Thanks for the quick response. I installed Eclipse 3.0.1, and then
installed VE 1.0.1 with the update manager. I haven't used the "manage
configurations" to do anything. Additionally, I have VE SDK 1.0.1, EMF
SDK 2.01, and GEF SDK 3.01 installed (all through the update manager).
Anything else I can look for?
Thanks,
Dave

Rich,
I reinstalled Eclipse and then installed VE 1.0.2. Everthing appears to
be working now, though I never saw the problem immediately after install.
As one additional note, I was also able to get the VE to run by switching
the workspace.
Thanks for your help, I'm hopeful this will resolve my problem.

I'm afraid I can't help you then. We do nothing with the launching
configuration type. That is all buried deep down in the bowels of
Eclipse. They maintain it.
