create a Scrapbook page to run some tests. I added my project in to test
some code. That is when I noticed code suggestion tool (Ctrl+Space)
after typing "new", "new - create new object" doesn't appear.

I do not believe scrapbook pages support templates.
The proposal for "new - create new object" is a code assist template

Darin,

Thank you very much for your response. I was following Eclipse and Java
for Total Beginners video's they show using code assist with a
scrapbook. When I hit (CTRL+Space) it shows Java Class Objects.

http://www.eclipse.org/resources/resource.php?id=392

The videos are great. I had done it once but lost my laptop. After a
reinstall and a new HD it did not work. :(

Any ideas?

Nearly one year later with no solution ????

I have the same issue ... perhaps its a matter of 'preferences'?? ... but i cannot find where it is.

Can somebody please enlighten me ... because i can see 'code assist' templates working in Eclipse Scrapbook in the Video Tutorial @ "Eclipse And Java For Total Beginners" video tutorial >>> http://eclipsetutorial.sourceforge.net/.

You should start by entering a feature request for it (there seems to be
none).

I'm also having this issue, CTRL-Space will not give me anything about a new object as this tutorial obviously shows.

What am I missing here?

Under Preferences => Java => Editor => Templates
find the 'new'entry under name, select it, click 'edit..' and change the context from 'java statements' to 'java', click ok.

Code assist in your scrapbook page should display the entry for new object now.

I've changed the context for that template so that it should work out of
the box in the future.

This problem still exists in the latest version (at the time of this writing) of Eclipse IDE for Java Developers
Version: Indigo (v3.7) Service Release 1
Build id: 20110916-0149
downloaded from www.eclipse.org/downloads/

You still have to perform the changes suggested by Marco in message 650646 above namely:

Yes of course. My comment was made on November 29, so it's obvious that
the fix isn't in a build from September. Try 3.8/4.2 M4.
