I have a problem with Eclipse not properly carrying out certain basic CVS
functions. Since this involves CVS, it's probably not really a "newcomer"
question and thus perhaps doesn't fit this "newcomer" list. When I posted
the question here some time ago, there was no reply.
So what would be a better group to post such a question (for reference,
the question is appended)
Thanks,

==============
MY QUESTION IS:
==============
My platform is
Windows XP Pro;
Eclipse 3.0.1;
For the CVS repository server I'm using CVSNT 2.5.0.1 (a widely used
stable CVS repository system from http://www.cvsnt.com/cvspro/ that I
have tested and used independently with WinCVS http://www.wincvs.org/. I
have tried other CVS versions as well, same results)
==============
- I'm starting with the Eclipse "CVS Repository Exploring perspective"
(Window->Open Perspective->Other->CVS Repository Exploring). Screenshot
here:
http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~rnott/eclipse/CVSrepositoryP erspective.jpg
In that Perspective, in the Navigator View on the right, I select the
project I want to import to the CVS repository, Ch02_01 in my case. Then
I right-click on the project and select Team->Share Project...
- This brings up a "Share Project" window, where I select my local CVS
repository ":pserver:administrator@localhost:/myrepo" and click Next.
Screenshot here:
http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~rnott/eclipse/ShareProjectWi ndow_1.jpg
- This brings up a warning (not an error) related to "repository prefix",
and I accept by clicking "OK". Screenshot here:
http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~rnott/eclipse/WarningReposit oryPrefix.jpg
- This brings up another "Share Project" window, saying "the resources of
project Ch02_01 are in sync with the repository", making me hope that all
is fine. Screenshot here:
http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~rnott/eclipse/ShareProjectWi ndow_2.jpg
- I then click the "finish" button. which brings me back to the initial
view where I started:
http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~rnott/eclipse/CVSrepositoryP erspective.jpg
with no changes visible.
- I refresh the CVS Repositories view on the left, but my project module
Ch02_01 does NOT show up. And in fact when I check for it independently,
outside Eclipse, using WinCVS the module is NOT in the repository.
- Right-clicking on the project in the Navigator view and selecting
Team->Share Project... again shows the same limited options as when I
started, only "Share Project" and "Apply Patch":
http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~rnott/eclipse/CVSrepositoryP erspective.jpg
Other options that are supposed to be there at this point (Commit,
Update, Branch, etc.) are MISSING.
In summary, I'm NOT ABLE TO IMPORT a project into CVS with Eclipse
(Team->Share the project) .
Has anyone amongst you come across this problem?
Would anybody out there have some ideas for me on how to deal with this
problem?
Thanks,
Wolfgang R.

I think this group is appropriate, or the eclipse.platform group if you
prefer. Thanks for being considerate and asking, but in this case it is
not obvious so either one will do.
No, for you problem, I think this post has extra detail that the first
one did not, and this helps. I can't be sure (because I don't use
CVSNT), but I suspect that your problem lies in the warning about repos
path that you are ignoring. There has been talk on these groups relating
to CVSNT and repository paths, so some research into past newsgroup
messages would probably help you.
In fact, a Google for the terms "eclipse cvsnt repository path" (without
the quotes) will yield you an immediate answer, I think.

Thanks Eric,
I Found the solution in that Eclipse can't use the "repository prefix" and
that the whole thing is case sensitive. So the full repository path needs
to be given to eclipse like
:pserver:administrator@localhost:C:/CVSrepo/repo
(I guess the protocoll could be :sspi: or whatever)
and that needs to correspond EXACTLY (incl. case) to the settin in the
CVSNT repository control panel:
Location: C:/CVSrepo/repo
Name: C:\CVSrepo\repo
Thanks, and good luck.
Thanks,
Wolfgang R.
