Questions about stability of certain widgets and usage in RCP application [message #699589]

Hi,

I'm thinking about using a few of the Nebula widgets in an internal use RCP application that my team and I are developing.

I wanted to find out the stability of the widgets we are thinking about using (how stable, do they have maintainers, etc.), and how to best incorporate them into our tycho build and eventually put into our p2 repository for our RCP application.

We are considering using the widgets:

CalendarCombo
TableCombo
Grid

Please let me know what the current best practices are for incorporating the nebula widgets into an RCP application as well.

Hi,

I can only comment on the grid which I'm more or less responsible for
and it is API stable. We are currently working on a release schedule
which will lead to a 1.0 marking this API stability also in version numbers.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me what is the currently accepted practice on including the nebula widgets in my RCP build? We have a tycho build set up and I'd like to be able to include this properly.

If you need more info...please let me know. Right now because the build page still says they are broken, I'm not sure how to proceed or where to get the latest builds.

Any info you can provide (pointers to current docs, etc.) would be appreciated!

We have builds running on tycho see https://hudson.eclipse.org/hudson/
but we haveing had troubles publishing them when we worked on the build
that's why you can't download them from download.eclipse.org

You can find out build configuration in cvs.

Thanks Tom. I went to the web page and there seem to be 2 nebula widgets - xviewer and tableCombo being built, and the maven-nebula build. TableCombo has failed the last 4/5 builds. The CalendarCombo and Grid widgets do not appear to be there - or am I missing something?

I'm trying to convince my team that these widgets are useful, and we should be seriously considering them for our project....and because of the alpha status I'm having a tough time of it. This build situation is not helping my cause!

Let me correct that - Grid is in the main build - maven-nebula-1.0-nightly....but not calendarCombo. Any idea why it's not included in the build?

Hi,

I'm afraid there's none yet. The main problem is that we don't have
people getting payed to do such work.

We are currently in the process to split nebula in 2 projects and once
this is done I'm going to set up a complete maven build.

I think the easiest for you might be to simply checkout nebula from CVS,
export it locally to a p2 repo and add it to your tycho as a locale p2-repo.

Thanks Tom.

I understand that is a big problem - unfortunately it works against me in my argument, but hopefully I can show them how useful these 3 widgets are compared to the stock SWT widgets.

Hi Sharon,

We are slowly improving and I can only speak for Grid (PShelf,PGroup)
which is very stable and if you need commercial support my company
provides support and bugfixing.

I've now updated the build process and it creates a p2-repo now. See
https://hudson.eclipse.org/hudson/job/maven-nebula-1.0-nightly/lastSuccessfulBuild/artifact/org.eclipse.nebula.updatesite/target/site/
