Different cursor for insert/overwrite mode. [message #68537]

Lately I've been having a lot of trouble dropping unexpectedly into overwrite
mode in the middle of typing. It has been getting more and more
frustrating. Part of the problem is my obsolete style of using the
numeric keypad cursor keys to get around, which is only one step away from
the keypad insert key. But mostly I don't think Eclipse is giving me
enough feedback about what mode it is in. Yea there is a little tag down
in the bottom margin, but that's a long way from where I'm typing.

It would be big help if Eclipse changed the cursor between a vertical bar
and a blinking block to indicate insert/overwrite mode. Most of my old
editors worked that way, Netbeans did it as well. It makes it immediately
obvious when the mode has changed.

3.0 M1 does change the cursor based on what mode you're in.

And there's a preference (see Java > Work in Progress preferences) that
blocks from jumping into overwrite mode.
