Elcipse with CCS4 and SDCC for 8051 [message #672515] Sat, 21 May 2011 10:03 Go to next message

Hi,

I am using Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio 4 which is based on Eclipse for embedded software of TI MSP micros.

I wish to setup the SDCC C compiler for 8051 controllers with Eclipse as the IDE using plugins as mentioned in this link - http/embeddedcraft_org/free8051_html

TI CCS4 was setup on my computer as a fully automated install. The Eclipse install guide for using the SDCC compiler mentions that Eclipse can be simply copied and run from the install directory.

Also, the plugins are to be copied / added to the Eclipse directories.

Being a complete newcomer to Eclipse I have a few queries regarding the setup and use.

1. As Eclipse is already installed as part of CCS4, Will I need to setup it up again for using SDCC ?
2. If yes, will the two installs function independently or will it cause any problems ?
3. If no, assuming I install SDCC and plugins as per the instuctions mentioned, will both compilers work independently ?
How would I select which plugin / compiler to use?

Thanks and regards,
Tanmay Sutaria.

Tanmay,

These days anyone contributing to Eclipse generally provides a p2
repository from which you can install their stuff using Help->Install
New Software... It is possible to just copy things into the
eclipse/dropins folder, but that's a frowned upon practice. Likely the
two things you mention can coexist in the same Eclipse, but it's
possible they both depend on conflicting/incompatible versions of some
bundles. The software installer will check for that...
