Hello all,

I use Eclipse JDT under Debian Linux.

First I installed Eclipse 2.1, Build 200302061700, for gtk 2.x .
I used it for a little while, and then something strange happened -
Eclipse became extremely slow to respond to my actions, that is,
some views don't react to mouse and key actions. For example, when
I click a file in Package Explorer, it takes 30-60 minutes to open
it in the editor. Once opened, the editor does not work prorerly either -
it takes 30 seconds to react to a key pressed. During this period the menu
is working, but doesn't react either - for instance, EXIT does not work.

My PC is not that slow - 1800MHz, 512 Mb RAM, so this is not the reason.

I changed my Java installation from Blackdown Java 1.4.1 to native Java
1.4.1 from Sun, then changed it back. To no avail.

I downloaded a Eclipse M1, build 200306051737, a more recent build.

The behavior is the same.

Then I downloaded Eclipse M1 for Motif. Here the problem is a bit
different.
In two previous cases during the periods between my action and reaction CPU
was not loaded. Here, in Motif Eclipse, each pressing a key causes a
period during
which the CPU is loaded. Work is still impossible.

Which is interesting is that sometimes, after 20-39 minutes of waiting,
the IDE
starts to work fast, but the problem returns when restarted.

I have no idea of what the reason is. Has anyone experienced the same?

Best regards,
Yuri leikind
