Control the "speed" of a gradient? [message #653716]

Now I'm getting picky, but I'd like to use a gradient from white to red on my chart background to indicate where the graph values start to represent a problem. The problem is that the transition from white to red happens too fast and the background is almost solid red by the time it reaches 40% of a 100% axis. I'd like the red to kick in around 80%. Is there any way to control the speed of the gradient mix?

You may be able to create an image in another tool and then use that for
the chart background. It would be great if you could log a bug for the
gradient to implement stops.
