Is there a way to search for a specific string or text that has been committed to a repository?

Say I wanted to find every project that had the string "orders" anywhere in the project, how would I go about doing that?

pickaxe is not implemented in JGit/EGit yet.

See http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-log.html git log -S or -G and friends how to do that from native git.
