VE 1.0.2.1 doesn't work with eclipse 3.1, lots of changes made since then.

Try stepping up to our latest integration build I20050719. On this page
will be a link to the other prereqs... Eclipse 3.1, GEF 3.1, EMF 2.1.

Within the next week we should have VE 1.1 final and that will show up
in the update manager. Until then you've got to to the download by hand.

Hi Jon,

I've tried using the latest integration build (with prereqs) on WinXP and
I also get a similar error.

I have these installed:

VE-runtime-I20050719.zip
GEF-runtime-3.1.zip
emf-sdo-runtime-2.1.0.zip
eclipse-SDK-3.1-win32.zip
and Sun's 1.5.0_01 SDK

When creating a new Visual Class from File->New->Other I eventually get a
Visual Editor with only three tools: Selection, Marquee and Choose Bean.

The Eclipse log contains (and no, I can't explain the 1.5.0_02 vs.
1.5.0_01 jvm discrepancy either...):

Actually this is a different problem then the original append.

This is an older workspace right? If so, please do the following:

1) Try to open a VE once, and close it.
2) Do Projects->Clean...->Clean All projects
3) Then try the VE again. It looks like introspection didn't work
correctly and it may be due to an old cache.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for the walkthrough, it didn't work after a clean but I believe
I've tracked down the problem...

I created a fresh workspace and imported my existing projects. VE worked
only on certain projects and not others - so my problem was at least
partly due to the old cache you referred to.

The only difference between the ones that worked and the ones that didn't
was that some of our project don't use the default JRE container (this is
replaced by a vendor specific one) and I believe VE sources its core
classes from that.

Looks like I may have to go through some project gymnastics to use VE with
these projects :(

Thanks,

Steph

Yes, you must use a JRE Container. I'm surprised that even JDT worked,
it too requires a JRE Container or a JRE_LIB variable. Without those
things get hairy.

What is different about the vendor specific JRE Container, may I ask?

Tried with the latest I build I20050720, no joy :(

> I have these installed:

VE-runtime-I20050720.zip (latest)
GEF-runtime-3.1.zip
emf-sdo-runtime-2.1.0.zip
eclipse-SDK-3.1-win32.zip
and Sun's 1.5.0_01 SDK

Identical faulty behaviour and almost identical stack trace:

Actually this is a different problem then the original append.

This is an older workspace right? If so, please do the following:

1) Try to open a VE once, and close it.
2) Do Projects->Clean...->Clean All projects
