I want to move my Mylyn tasks permanently from one Eclipse workspace to
another. Both workspaces are accessed with Mylyn 3.1. Is it safe to just
copy the .mylyn sub-directory of .metadata from the old workspace to the
new one or is some other procedure required?

Thanks

Both methods should have the same result. In Mylyn 3.1 File Import / Export
will import or create a zip archive of the .mylyn folder.

How about File / Export --> File / Import?

This is the standard way, but copying the .mylyn sub-directory could also work.
