Good Mylyn tutorial? [message #59648] Sat, 11 October 2008 08:10 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi,

Is there somewhere a good Mylyn tutorial available for version 3.0?

I have found several 2.x (short) tutorials but they are rather vague
about some of the more advanced topics of Mylyn, especially on
integrating tasks and contexts and changing contexts.

TIA

Joost

Thanks for the answer, but those links are actually the short 2.x
tutorials I was talking about ;-)

I am using an Eclipse/Trac environment and would like to create, manage
and use a context for a task I have created from a Trac ticket. I cannot
find a clear and understandable description of the procedures of how to
add a context, change a given context and working/using the context,
switching between contexts etc. And it seems to me that especially that
( tasks and their context ) is what Mylyn makes extremely useful.

I believe that if you activate the task, then select the resources from
the package view alt-click or open type dialog will add resources to the
context.
The context is just a collection of given resources in the ide.
Is there a tutorial for the workflow of Eclipse\Trac? I don't know try
google…

Much of that works the same way in Mylyn 3.0 as it does in Mylyn 2.x. The
UI is now slicker, and the new UI has some neat hyperlinking functionality
that makes working with tasks easier and faster.

Mylyn tracks your context automatically based on what you do in the UI. It
associates that context with your current active task. To get Mylyn to
start tracking, activate a task. You can later upload the context for a bug
to Trac so that other developers can use it if they need to work on the bug,
review your work, etc.

If you want to see how all of this looks in Mylyn 3.0, I recommend the
webcast link at the top of the Mylyn Getting Started page:
http://www.eclipse.org/mylyn/start/.
