I have Installed Eclipse
by unzipping it
to Root Directory

So a folder Eclipse is created and all other files unzipped

Now
I unzip the file
VE-runtime-0.5.0.zip,emf_2.0.0_20040225_1234SL.zip,GEF-runti me-I20030327
to Eclipse Directory

Afterwards I start the Eclipse

And Then When I see the Summary Details of the Eclipse

I find following Errors

To resolve this it would be helpful to know what version of Eclipse you're
using. ;-)

You are using an incompatible mix of versions. Please check the pre-reqs
list on the download page. It will tell you the correct mix. It is very
important because versions cannot be mixed together.

For example you are using the 20040225 driver of EMF. That driver WILL
NOT work with VE 0.5.0, and unless that is a typo, GEF I20030327 is way,
way downlevel and will not work with VE 0.5.0. And as R.U. Deranged
asked, what version of eclipse are you using? 3.0 of eclipse doesn't
work with 0.5.0 VE.

Thanks I am using Eclipse 3.0

Well I had a mix up of different versions

Can you give me correct hyperlink for the correct versions to download

As I went to the Hyperlink
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/indextools.cgi/~checkout~/emf -home/downloads/dl.html?cvsroot=Tools_Project
to find out the correct Versions

The first Statement written over there is
Use Eclipse Version 3.0 (M6) for EMF 2.0.0, Eclipse Version 2.1.2 for EMF
1.1.1/EMF 1.1.1.1, Eclipse Version 2.1.1 for EMF 1.1.0, or Eclipse Version
2.1 for EMF 1.0.2.

So According to that I have to download EMF 2.0 and that version has been
downloaded by me but as you said it will not work with VE 0.5.0 So please
can you give me hyperlink of the correct versions suitable for Eclipse 3.0

I have to download EMF,GEF,VE for ECLIPSE 3.0

As I am new to Eclipse
Is it correct that after installing these components I can create Java
Panels,Applets,Frames etc In an Visual environment I mean click and drag

Thanks in advance

Er, but which build of 3.0 do you have installed? We can't determine exactly
which versions you'll need until we know that. ;-)

The 1.0 stream version of VE never supported M6 IIRC.

My advice would be to upgrade to M7 or the latest integration build since M6
is much buggier anyhow.

Everything the VE required is listed on the download page of the VE
driver itself. The VE download page's first section says "Requirements"
and the links there go to the drivers of Eclipse, EMF, and GEF that are
required.

As I said previously, there was no version for M6. VE support skipped from M5
to M7.

Here's what you need for M7:

=====

EMF 2.0.0 build 20040225_1234SL:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/downloads/emf/emf_2.0.0_20 040225_1234SL.zip

Note: you *might* be able to use the latest integration build, I200403081633,
but I wouldn't bet on it. Rich would know for sure. If you want to try:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/downloads/emf/emf-runtime- I200403081633.zip

=====

GEF build I20040212:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/gef/downloads/drops/I-I200 40212-200402121128/GEF-runtime-I20040212.zip

=====

VE Integration Build I20040219:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/downloads/drops/I-I2004 0219-200402191909/VE-runtime-I20040219.zip

=====

Chirag,

For future reference. The download page of the VE drivers already has
all of the links to all of the pre-reqs. There's no need for us to list
them here in the newsgroup.

In the interest of fairness, the EMF page that is linked to from VE's
requirements list can be confusing for new users. The link should point to a
*specific* build, not a page with a dozen different builds. ;-)

Actually the download build zip file link does point to the actual
download zip file. The build page link only points to the actual page.
There is no marker in the download page that I can reference to point to
the actual required version in the page. EMF doesn't have it structured
like Eclipse and GEF does where there is a separate page for each
driver, which it makes it difficult.

However, starting with the next build, the integration build id to use
for EMF will be listed instead of just saying 2.0.0.

Ah, I had my blinders on, sorry. I've gotten into the habit of clicking on
"build page" to retrieve what I need because the Eclipse runtime link points
to a Win32 zip when I'm looking for Linux instead, and for the EMF and GEF
items because I want to make sure I'm getting the most recent compatible
builds.

Do the links to the EMF and GEF zip files get updated when new integration
builds of them are released, or do you wait until the next VE release to
update them?

Mostly every integration build of VE uses the latest integration builds
of Eclipse, GEF, and EMF builds. There are exceptions but in general
this is true.

Bye

=====

EMF 2.0.0 build 20040225_1234SL:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/downloads/emf/emf_2.0.0_20 040225_1234SL.zip

Note: you *might* be able to use the latest integration build, I200403081633,
but I wouldn't bet on it. Rich would know for sure. If you want to try:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/downloads/emf/emf-runtime- I200403081633.zip

=====

GEF build I20040212:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/gef/downloads/drops/I-I200 40212-200402121128/GEF-runtime-I20040212.zip

=====

VE Integration Build I20040219:

http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/downloads/drops/I-I2004 0219-200402191909/VE-runtime-I20040219.zip

=====
