Eclipse & Xming [message #552433] Thu, 12 August 2010 04:55 Go to next message

On my Windows Vista pc, I'm using Xming to connect to our Linux (Suse 11.2) server. I'm starting Eclipse (Galileo) remotely on the Linux server via Xming. All works fine but when I open the find/replace dialog (ctrl+f) several times, it keeps growing. Each time it opens, it shows a little larger. And there's no possibility to resize it.
When doing the same directly from the console of the Linux server, I don't see that problem. The dialog box remains the same size and it's possible to resize it.
When, after several ctrl+f, the size of the dialog becomes too large to use, I have to go to the server's console, open Eclipse and do a ctrl+f. Then, the size of the dialog box returns to its normal size. Restarting Eclipse again via Xming shows a normal sized dialog box (but growing again each time I do a ctrl+f).
Within Eclipse, I noticed that some other dialogs have the same behaviour (e.g. File Search) and others don't (e.g. Preferences)
I also did a test with OpenOffice, also remotely starting via Xming. In a document, when doing ctr+f, the size of the search dialog box remains the same size.

I'm not sure whether this is a problem related to Eclipse or to Xming ?
Anyone had the same experience ?

I actually had the same problem. The find window eventually swallowed my whole screen; had to memorize the keystrokes since the buttons were long gone. I believe this is related to xming, mostly because if you donate and get the latest version, http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/, you can resize that window. The upgrade didn't solve my open-too-many-gedit-crashes-eclipse problems, but a $20 donation may be worth resizing that window, who knows.

Edit: Using the portable putty that you can get at the same time through a separate download seems to correct (haven't seen one yet) the putty crashing.
