Product's 'windowImages' property - transparency not working [message #550211]

I'm using Eclipse 3.5.1 on Windows XP and adding images for the "windowImages" property of the product extension.

Am I correct in understanding these will be used for the application's titlebar and taskbar? If not, where do I set those images?

The images I need to use are non-rectangular but I do not want them to appear on a white square, i.e. with white rectangular background. I want transparency outside the image area.

I've tried saving them as gifs and 8-bit and 24-bit png's, using Gimp, with no success. The application window's icon in both titlebar and taskbar appear on a white background; the transparency is lost. What am I doing wrong?
