Failed to start Infocenter(Help System) [message #54378]

Failed to start Infocenter using the following command:
java -classpath /opt/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.help.base_3.1.0.jar
org.eclipse.help.standalone.Infocenter -command start -eclipsehome
/opt/eclipse -port 9081 -nonexec

I got the following exception:

The source of my problem was found in the log file in the tomcat directory
in .metadata\.plugins
This lets you see the source of the exception that is caught by eclipse,
which gives more information than just CoreException

For me, the corresponding exception was:
LifecycleException: Protocol handler initialization failed:
java.net.BindException: Address already in use: NET_Bind:8081

So the port number that InfoCenter was trying to use was already being used
by something else.

Yeah, the reason is almost always that a server is already running on that port, possibly an old help server that you launched (but equally possibly another service that is running on the same port). Unfortunately, the message tends to be buried in the logs :-)
