installing cdt didnt work [message #542267] Thu, 24 June 2010 08:07 Go to next message

hi,

as the title says, i installed cdt and nothing happened. what i did:

downloaded the eclipse helios win32 zp and extracted it to c:\Program Files
started eclipse, entered http://download.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/releases/helios into the install new software dialog
checked main features and optional features, next, ok, agree... restart

and nothing changed. no new->project->c++, no new c++-perspective, no new c++-preferences... what did i do wrong?

maybe i just overlooked a checkbox or something like that, but i'm trying to find the problem for an hour now, but i found nothing...

same problem here but with Fedora 13.

eclipse doesn't "see" CDT

C++ is never mentioned in any eclipse option .

If you are a windows user easiest way to get a working Eclipse for C/C++ is to get it installed from:

http://code.google.com/a/eclipselabs.org/p/wascana/downloads /list
Very Happy

Does CDT appear in the Installation Details (Help->About Eclipse)? Is there anything in the log when you start Eclipse (logfile is in $MYWORKSPACE/.metadata/.log)?

Random suggestion = move your whole eclipse folder in to c:\, not
c:\program files and see if that helps straight away.

A colleague has been having problems here with installing features and
then not having them available. I think moving eclipse out of program
files and in to the root folder has solved it (for the moment).

As I understand it, that's the easiest way to get Eclipse/CDT on
Windows as a working version including the MinGW compiler. If the OP
already has MinGW, or Qt, or some other supported toolchain installed
then that's probably not the best way.

Also, if the OP wants to develop in Java and C++ then it sounds like
he's gone about it the right way.

If he only wants C/C++ IDE, and already has supported toolchains
installed, then the easiest way is to install the "Eclipse IDE for
C/C++" that you can download as a package from eclipse.org.

However - check out my comments on there possibly being issues with
installing in to Program Files.

i actually think that is a bug, and i rather wanted a fix instead of a workaround Smile cdt is installed according to installation details, and there is nothng in the log. when moving to c: , cdt is not installed anymore.

edit: solved by moving to c: . i really wonder how this majow bug made it into the release.
