BIRT report on iServer Express [message #542370] Thu, 24 June 2010 12:02 Go to next message

I am not sure if this is the right forum but I am in dire straits and any help would be much appreciated.

I just downloaded the trial version of Actuate 10 and am trying to test out the iServer Express as an option for our company. I am running into problems when trying to run a BIRT report through the management console of the iServer Express.

The BIRT runs fine through the Eclipse designer but gives me the following error when using the management console of iServer Express :

3301 : Cannot get report parameters for specified file.
PARAMETER!: /Home/administrator/test.rptdesign.

My report does not have a parameter. I use Actuate 10 and Eclipse 3.5 and BIRT 2.1.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks much.

Any chance you could open the report in BIRT 2.3.2 or the Actuate BIRT
Report Designer and make any change and re-save it? I assume the
reports that are delivered work?

I opened my test file as well as one of the sample files that worked fine, made changes in BIRT 2.3 and BIRT 2.5( Eclipse 3.5.2). Both the reports do not work in the iServer Express Management console.

I checked the log and it complains about the BIRT version being newer. So it does look like Actuate 10 is not compatible with the newer versions of BIRT.

I am now in the process of installing Actuate 11 and trying to run a BIRT report generated from version 2.3.2. Do you have any idea if this would work or still be incompatible?

Thanks so much for responding so quickly as always. Much appreciated.

A11 should work with 2.5.2 and lower reports. When A11 is released it
should also work with 2.6 reports.

It does work indeed! Thank you!

We use Pentaho open source BI suite and all of its products including ETL and the BI server. IF we were to switch to Actuate iServer Express as our report server, what options would we have for ETL? Does Actuate have its own ETL product that comes with the Express package?

Thanks much for all your inputs.

You can continue to use the ETL technology or you can look into cached
Information/data Object technology which allows multiple data sources to
be sourced and cached. These objects can then be used as a datasource
for BIRT.

Actuate partners with Talend in the same manner Jasper for instance integrates it.

We have several packages that use Actuate BIRT iServer Express and various other technologies including :

1. Netezza or Infobright on the Data tier.
2. Talend for the ETL tier

You can even create a BIRT report as an output of a Talend ETL job. ( tBIRT component in Talend Studio ).
