It appears that in 3.2 M7 integration builds, p2 suffixes ".feature.jar" to feature id's when building repositories instead of ".feature.group". Is this an intentional change? I did not find any references to this in bugzilla and it breaks everyone's build that composes installations using p2 commands, so it should be widely communicated.

It appears that IUs called *.feature.jar have existed before along side IUs called *.feature.group. What's different now is that feature.group ones are missing from some repositories that you get from eclipse.org.

Don't know if this is a p2 problem or pde build problem or what? The repositories that I generate myself from binary plugins and features using p2 commands seem to have *.feature.group IUs. The repositories that I get from WTP have *.feature.group IUs. The repositories that I get from Eclipse Platform (for things like JDT and PDE) have no *.feature.group IUs.

To wrap up this thread. The issue was eclipse project releng bug. Various repositories published for JDT, PDE, etc. were incomplete. The issue has been fixed and I have verified the fix in I20100428-0100 build.
