One challenge is that the VTODO
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICalendar#To-do_.28VTODO.29) format used
by some of these applications is quite limited in contrast with what we
consider required for task-focused work. But that's not to say that
having some kind of mechanism for either import/export or connections to
iCalendar based task management systems won't be useful. One rquest

The other thing that we have been discussing is standardizing on an XML

Maybe a wrapper could be developed to add such missing features, the extra data could be kept eclipse side in the local repository.

I see that there hasn't been much progress on this topic. However I thought there might be some interest in the work that CalConnect is doing to extend the the iCalendar VTODO standard to better support tasks:
