A question about snippets viewer and the palette of web page editor , [message #475095] Sun, 21 October 2007 21:45 Go to next message

Hello everyone:
we can drag the item of palette into the web page editor to generate the
jsp code,we can also drag
the item of snipptes viewer into the jsp editor to generate some code, but
items of snipptes viewer can't be draged into the web page editor.
I think snipptes viewer is superfluous now, right?
Thanks!

The snippets view is unsupported by the WPE. All tag creation via drop is
done only through the WPE palette. If you feel strongly that the
snippets view should be supported, please enter a bugzilla enhancment
request.

For facelet users, if we can support putting user-defined composites on
the palette, this will be very similar to snippets with the added
advantage that they are system named components. For JSP users, it may be
useful at some point to see if it makes sense to host snippets on the
palette, perhaps in a separate drawer grouping... if the snippets are
composed of tags we recognize as JSF components we could conceivably apply
similar drop strategies to the simple tag drop strategies.

All of which, of course, requires enhancement requests with enough user
demand :).

Thanks very much!

Recently I do a test:
I make a new customer snippets category .when I drag the item of snippets
viewer , I can judge the target editor,so I can generate diffrent code for
diffrent editor. Maybe I don't want to generate the text code but create
some model instance.
It means I can use the snippets viewer for providing special MODEL for my
customer editors to generate diffrent thing.
For example , I create a model and store it in the snippets viewer , the
model can drag into the java editor to generate hibernate DAO code fragment
and the model can drag into the xml editor to generate the hibernate config
code.
So I think developers can use the snippets viewer to store and share the
models they defined .It can very useful for developing.
The palette of web page editor can only provide the tag item--It's only a
palette of an editor.
