Hi,

i am using Java5 Syntax in my project. When starting the Launcher of my RCP Application it
only checks against Java 1.4.x.
Is there a way to set a minimum java version in config.ini ?

thx
Dennis

I don't know a solution. But did you try the latest additions provided
in 3.2M3? There are additional options on the Overview page of the
plugin.xml editor.

A possible workaround is to ship the JRE with your RCP. The launcher
will pick it up automatically if it's placed inside a directory called
"jre". This is also the best option if you want to limit your support to
only a specific JRE on the target platform and thus, reduce your QA
effort because you don't need to test all JRE variants.

I am also using Java 5, bt I have the luxury of shipping the JRE with my
app, and explicitly set it in the product ini file. Used Java 5 only
because I knew I could ship the JRE.

If you are not shipping the JRE, DO NOT USE JAVA 5.

And practically, i think in the launch parameters you shouldbe able to
specifiy a JVM minimum version in the product ini file. I think this is
using the -version flag.

If you need to force it to stop if there's a lower version than you expect/want, you could always write a plugin that checks to see if there's a minimum version and displays appropriate error messages yourself. You could even hook this into the intro window with suitable directions/download links of where to get a better version.

Failing that, you could always ship a version with you, if you know what target architectures you're going to be on. You can put it in the 'jre' directory, but you can also specify a different location (e.g. -vm /usr/local/java15) if you know where it's going to be.

You want to set in the config.ini (or in the <launcher>.ini)
osgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5

Is there by, any change, a way to specify the maximum supported java
version?
