xmi.extension support [message #381546] Wed, 14 January 2004 13:00 Go to previous message

We have cobbled together a way to carry 3rd party or "out of band"
(non-modeled) data in our xmi instance documents. At runtime the
out-of-band info is "piggybacked" onto any given EObject via an adapter(s).
Our solution requires a custom resource (actually we have also implemented
the solution in a "layer" sitting on top of the default XMIResource
implementation) and is working in early prototype testing; however, this is
a very non-standard way of supporting 3rd party tool extensions. We have
considered implementing a custom resource that provides this type of support
in an xmi v2.0 compliant manner rather than the current approach.

But before making a final decision we wanted to ask the following question.

Are their any plans for natively providing support for XMI.Extension data
within a future version of the EMF framework?
