I just installed a new laptop and am having trouble with the display. I'm
getting blank or black buttons. I am using the vm from the Sun J2EE 1.4
SDK:

C:\Program Files\eclipse\eclipse.exe -vm C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin\java.exe

Try turning your video hardware acceleration down a few notches (at least
in you're running on Windows): Right click on desktop and choose properties:
Display Properties / Settings tab / Advanced button / Troubleshoot tab -
seriously decrease hardware acceleration.

Alternatively, upgrade to J2SDK 1.4_04 or JDK 1.5 (a.k.a. Java 5 or 'Tiger')

Note: the J2SE SDK you use should have no influence on which J2EE SDK you
can use (correct me if I'm wrong)

Best of luck!

Changing the video hardware acceleration had no effect. But I tried
adjusting the compatibility properties in the shortcut, and I found that
checking "Disable visual themes" resolved the problem fairly well for now
(the icons aren't as detailed, but still usable). I'll investigate
upgrading my SDK.

Thanks for the quick response,

Faith

Glad to see your up and running. I had an identical problem and solved it
by adjusting the hardware acceleration. This is a pain when playing a DVD
video or some games, coz then you have to readjust it to watch the movie
or play the game.

I noticed the problem seemed to resolve itself when I upgraded from J2SE
SDK 1.4_02 to 1.4_04.

Best of luck anyhow
