Accessibility: need thicker caret [message #324747] Thu, 31 January 2008 10:39 Go to next message

hello

I notice there's an accessibility feature for custom, supposedly thicker
caret (cursor), but it doesn't make the caret appreciably thicker, maybe
one or two pixel lines. Is there a way to get a block caret so the caret
is the size of a (monospace) character?

also, for some reason, pressing Insert has no effect whatsoever in any of
the editors. caret does not change, nor the insert mode.

If you are using a 3.4 build and run on Windows you can use the default
caret and then change its appearance via the Windows Accessibility tools.

What editor are you talking about? Pressing Insert key works fine here.

I'm not sure which editor it's using, but it's the same whether I'm
editing a .css, html, .js, or .erb / .rb (ruby/rails) file.

I'm using Aptana studio (RadRails). Its eclipse version is 3.2. I tried
updating to eclipse 3.4 by pointing it to

http://download.eclipse.org/releases/ganymede/staging/

but it complained about missing com.ibm.icu. I googled and found

com.ibm.icu.source_3.6.1.v20070417.zip

but couldn't figure out how to install it. I selected new archived site
and pointed Eclipse to it but it said "does not contain an update site".

I guess I could install 3.4 standalone then install RadRails as a plugin,
but I did that before and couldn't do it and gave up and installed Aptana
which has RadRails built-in. Arggh, it shouldn't be this hard.
