I have a program where I use a cache. It involves weak references and
things. Something is holding on to some of my objects when it should
not be. My program is becoming increasingly complex over the years and
its no longer sufficient to create instantiation counters and finalizer
notes.

Is there a free tool out there that can help me map the references in
Java memory?

I used to use various free tools like hat and others but I am hoping
there is something better out there since 1.5 is supposed to have better
diagnostics.

Thanks!

You might want to check out the Test and Performance Tools Platform
project: www.eclipse.org/tptp

TPTP includes a very basic memory analysis tool that might be helpful to
you.
