All the sub-menus in Eclipse are disabled [message #297482]

I'm using Linux(Ubuntu Kernel 2.6) and installed Eclipse 3.1.1 on my OS.
When I opened Eclipse all the sub-menus(i.e. All sub-menus under File,

Maybe there's no perspective open. Try:
1. Window > Open Perspective > Other...
2. select 'Java'
3. press 'OK'
4. File > New > Project...

I have downloaded the .tar.gz file from eclipse.org and then right clicked
and select 'Extract Here'. Lastly I have double clicked the 'eclipse' file
in the main folder to open the eclipse.

Make sure you
- download "Eclipse SDK" (not Platform)
- install the archive into an empty directory
- preserve the directory structure when extracting the archive

Hey,

It sounds like you're running Eclipse with the GCJ Java runtime that
came with Ubuntu, rather than a Java runtime from Sun or IBM. Download
an official runtime and make sure it shows up first on your path, and
Eclipse should work fine.

It worked in Jeff's way, I have created a launcher for my eclipse file
that enforces Ubuntu to use Sun's JRE.

Is there any way that I can set the Sun's JRE to be the default JRE for my
Ubuntu?
