Enter Key in Save Resources Dialogue [message #295611] Sun, 04 December 2005 11:16 Go to next message

There seems to be an unexpected behaviour in the Save Resources dialogue:
After modification of a (Java) source file, selecting the "Run" toolbar
icon with the mouse and then accepting the "Save Resource" dialog by
pressing the return key, the resources are saved and the program gets
started -->>> but the Console window the output) closes immediately and
the output is lost!

Everything works as expected when using the key shortcut <ctrl>+<F11> or
selecting the menu entry "Run Last Launched" (with mouse or by keyboard).
Everything also works OK if there is nothing to save and the dialogue is
not shown. Everything also works OK if the dialogue is confirmed by
selecting the OK button with the mouse.

Many of my students are complaining that they often have to press the Run
icon twice before seeing the output, and til my todays observations I
could not explain it nor help them...

PS: Is this the correct place for discussing for such an observation? How
can I post a bug report? I did not find a better place...

The best place is in a bug report. I just tried this (Windows, 3.2
stream build) and didn't have any luck, but hopefully with enough
details it can be reproduced. Be sure to include version you are using,
your operating system, etc.

I also have difficulties in reproducing the bug, it happens 1 out of 4
times... At least I found out that the process described not always makes
the bug appear. I remarked the bug only sometimes after having popped up the
"Save Resource Window", thats reproducible. It seems as there might be a
problem with the Console window which gets sometimes close immediately after
showing the output. My students find it annoying...
The console window with the output then is also not available in the
"Display selected Console" window, so I have no chance to switch back to the
console output of the terminated program. Instead of the <terminated>...
Console there is shown either the CVS or Stack Trace console window, or an
empty inactive console window.

I am working with the official Eclipse 3.1.0 Build ID I20050627-1435,
running Windows XP SP2, JDK 1.5.0_04.

PS: How do I post a bug report?

I just discovered that I have documented an already well known bug...
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=108321
Maybe we just have to wait for the corresponding bg fix...
So I can close this session.
