I am looking for a link to download the Eclipse Ganymede API javadocs as
fopund here:

http://help.eclipse.org/stable/nftopic/org.eclipse.platform. doc.isv/reference/api/index.html

As this site is sometimes down (like now) I would rather have the
documentation offline. Is there some ZIP archive somewhere?

This should ship with Eclipse. If you go to Help->Help Contents. This
particular document is under the platform / references / API section.

It might be the case that the docs only ship with the SDK, so depending
on what distribution you download, you may or may not have them.
