removing the bookmarks from a PDF [message #260971] Wed, 07 November 2007 17:09 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi,

I'm using BIRT 2.0.1 and I'm having the following problem:
I created a report design file with a table and some other information.
That table is using the grouping of the information inside. When opening
the generated PDF with Adobe Reader 8 I see that there were also generated
some bookmarks (usually it's the list of the elements that are grouped
after). For example:
if I'm grouping after the column "userName", the generated table would
look like:

UserName Information
John Doe1 information11
John Doe1 information12
John Doe1 information13
John Doe2 information21
John Doe2 information22

and the bookmarks will contain the list:
John Doe1
John Doe2

I didn't specified anywhere in the report to use any bookmarks. I would
like to turn them off. Is there any way to remove those bookmarks, to stop
get them generated? Or is it a BUG?

Thank you,
Cristian

It's a feature. When you create a group, the default behavior is to create a
TOC (bookmarks in PDF) using the group values. When creating/editing a
group, you'll see a TOC expression option in the group editor. Delete the
expression there to remove the TOC entries/bookmarks.

I have to try this but curious if there will be atleast any marginal
improvement in performance with no TOC, because these need not be generated
in my case as well.

Venc,

I would recommend logging a Bugzilla entry that defines exactly what types
of improvements you are looking for.
