How to xml editor for xml files, and ant editor for ant files [message #257905] Mon, 09 June 2008 12:38 Go to next message

I've been using Eclipse 3.3.2 for quite a while now, and when I edit XML
files, I get the regular XML editor, and when I edit Ant build.xml files,
I get the Ant editor. This is how it's supposed to work.

I then installed the Aptana plugin, which is great for html and javascript
files, but its XML editor overrides the default XML editor and Ant editor.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get back to where I was with XML
files, but still having the Aptana plugin.

If I go into File Associations, I can edit the default editor for "*.xml".
After installing Aptana, it shows the "Aptana XML Editor" as the default.

So, I've tried a couple different things, because it seems to be all I can
do:

* Change the default to "XML Editor"
* Change the default to "Ant Editor"

Neither of these appears to be what I want, because when I do the former,
editing Ant files doesn't use the Ant editor, and with the latter, editing
plain XML files uses the Ant editor.

How do I fix this so I get the Ant editor for Ant build files, and the
regular XML editor for plain XML files, and the Aptana editor for the
other file types it handles?

You can add new file name patterns, like build.xml or customTargets.xml,
then associate them with the Ant editor.

Ah. I had already tried that, but I forgot to set the Ant editor as the
default (I just had it at the top of the list, which isn't enough). That
appears to fix it.

Thanks.
