begin typing anywhere in editor [message #254878] Tue, 29 April 2008 12:38 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
is there a setting that allows you to start typing exactly where you click
the mouse, even if the line is not extended the clicked location? In
CodeWright the editor would automatically extend the current line to the
mouse click. It had a feature called "virtual spaces". The virtual
spaces would extend the line to the mouse click. Once the user started
typing the virtual spaces would be replaced with real spaces & the line
feed would then be updated also.

Anything like this possible in Eclipse?

Cheers

Assuming that I understand correctly what you're asking for, I believe
the answer is "no".

But it sounds like a cool feature, at least for 'clickers'

Nope, see: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=21000

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's not a feature yet, but something
that many of us would like to see. If I had any idea how to code it, I
might look in to it a bit, but my experience is all embedded C with a
splash of perl for fun.

Cheers
